ROBOTIC METAL

2019

The project was inspired by the bark of the birch tree. The computer generated geometry occasionally varies between smooth, flat and hardening cracks and it is possible to discribe the surface in such a way, that the facade panels appear almost natural with a variety of options. In continuation of this idea, attempts have been made to speed up the robot forming process with aspects of traditional craftsmanship. In particular, the aim was not to create an error-free reproduction of the digital surface; on the contrary, imperfections and traces of tools contribute to the craftsmanship relationship. The project explores the tension between material and execution revealing something unexpected, discoveries that could not have been expected.
